Places to visit in Agra

TajMahal

Located on the banks of the river Yamuna, the TajMahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the loving memory of his third wife, Mumtaz. It consists of the tomb of himself as well. This white marble monument is spectacular in itself and the water fountains at the entrance along with the alcoves by the side make it even more mesmerizing to the eyes. FatehpurSikri

Structured out of red sandstone, FatehpurSikri is located at a distance of around 40kms from the city of Agra. Again entitled as the World Heritage by UNESCO, this fortified area houses Jama mosque, BulandDarwaza, Palace of JodhaBai, and Tomb of SalimChisti among a few of the famous monuments. Don’t miss out on the view especially during sunset, the time when the fort looks at its best.

Agra Fort

Located on the banks of river Yamuna, this architectural brilliance is structured totally out of red sandstone and is usually known as the walled city of Agra and most popularly as LalQila. It is situated at a distance of 2.5kms from the TajMahal. Stunning structures such as Moti Masjid, JahangiriMahal, Diwan-e-Khaas, etc lies within Agra Fort’s premises. Also, a part of Agra Fort is being utilized by the Indian Army and is not open to public access.

MehtabBagh

Situated to the north of TajMahal, MehtabBagh serves as a perfect spot to view the former in all its elegance from the fountain side right at the gate entrance. MahtabBagh is adorned by four tower-like structures made out of sandstone with a massive tank in the center. The stunning site of the TajMahal’s clear reflection on the waters is unmatchable on moonlit nights. Mehtabbagh currently homes to delightful scenery of flora and fauna which just adds up to the park’s beauty.
